Katie Badger, alumna mentor, speaks to current mentors about “purpose.” She shared with them that need to “give everything they have.” We are fortunate to have a strong community of mentor support for new mentors as they prepare for next year. This is our first meeting of the summer. These students are working hard to prepare to guide the new freshmen in the upcoming school year.

The Department of Finance at the University of Illinois, in partnership with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, hosts an annual video essay contest in April during Money Smart Week. The theme for 2018 was about the dos and don’ts of money borrowing and lending. The contest is open to all high school students in the area, and this year they had a record number of 37 entries. Sisters Amanda and Alexa Franklin from Mahomet-Seymour High School took the top prize with their video called Money Smart or Not. First place came with a $500 prize presented at a Rotary function on May 7. Their video was featured at the event along with the other finalists. Their entry was accompanied by eight others from the MSHS Digital Multimedia course. All 2018 contest submissions, as well as past years’, can be viewed at the following link. http://www.business.illinois.edu/FinancialLiteracy/VideoList.aspx
