Fired Up About Reading!

Lincoln Trail Million Minute Reading Challenge

We believe that assisting students to become better readers is one of the most important and rewarding activities that takes place at our school. We also believe that improving a child’s reading and helping him/her grow as a reader is something that is enhanced through reading at home. The more time anyone spends reading, the better reader that person will be. We encourage you to set a time each evening when you and your child can read together. Parents are our most valuable partners in the education of our students at Lincoln Trail. Our Million Minute Reading Challenge is one way that we can work together for the benefit of the children. We look forward to your participation in the Lincoln Trail Million Minute Reading Challenge.

Procedures:
  • The sheet below will be sent home with the students. Each student will have a reading goal indicated on the sheet. (Additional recording sheets can be printed from our website.)
  • As students read, simply mark off each square indicating minutes read.
  • Parents sign the bottom of the sheet before returning to school.
  • Students return the grid to school when the reading goal is met. They will add a sticker to the classroom dragon and will receive a new sheet/goal so they can continue reading and recording.
  • Once the classroom dragon is filled it will be added to the body in the hallway. Look for our progress as we move towards the millionth minute.
  • Lincoln Trail will celebrate minute milestones throughout the year.

We need everyone to read to help us achieve our goal of reading one million minutes by the end of the year!!
